Tamil film vinyl records: how to request the right LP

Make the title unambiguous

A search by composer can return soundtracks, compilations and other formats. If you are looking for Ilaiyaraaja or A. R. Rahman on vinyl, include the film and song names rather than assuming a composer’s name identifies a particular LP.

Film titles may be transliterated differently in English listings. The Tamil spelling, an image of a known sleeve or a catalogue reference can help clarify the request. These are ways to describe your search, not claims that every requested soundtrack has a vinyl edition.

Check the physical format and contents

Ask whether the offer is an LP, an EP, a single or a compilation. Confirm the tracks on both sides and whether the soundtrack is complete for your needs. Disc size is not a substitute for reading the contents.

For a particular song, confirm the version as well as the title. Film music can be presented in different selections, and an instrumental or compilation entry may not be the vocal recording you expected.

Compare older copies by condition

Ask for clear label photos and the condition of the disc and sleeve separately. If quiet playback matters, request notes from a play-test instead of relying only on a cover photograph. Record any stated clicks, skips or missing packaging before agreeing to buy.
